Apparently Tatas together with Birlas were the pioneers who came up with the original five year plan of India which the government modified and beyonf it. This book provides an amazing insight not only about one of the most important man in India but about the industrial, social and political history of 20th century India.
This is a biography and as biographies go, it is quite extensive an account of the life and times of J. He became my hero. Tata Letters and Keynote also seems to be an interesting read to gain insight into the mind of this humble, somewhat media-shy and intense individual.
What a leader he was.
Beylnd, the part relating to JRD’s connection with politicians at the time is a little bit drag. The insights into the tata work ethic, values and culture is far reaching.

A truly inspiring biography and a must read for every person. Two main things come to our minds. Many detailed aspects into his life could have been avoided to keep the narration to a minimum, but at the same time portray the personality of JRD. The 63 years service to Tatas is an unforgettable and cherished endeavour, by all standards. But he never deserted them at any grave situations.
Believing that what was good for India must be good for Tatas, he took the bureaucratic slaps without complain and still did his best because he did not know any other way to live. I know that aiming at perfection has its drawb I was always fascinated by this gentleman Mr. I wanted to read and know more about him. But Entrepreneurs like JRD have done a greater job by providing a means for employment to thousands of people.
