It is the story of a group of several dozen people who decide to come together and live self-sufficiently off the land There was the freedom and beauty in the commune and the manual labor which sometimes bore not enough fruit or warmth. The queasy, off-kilter feeling this style evoked at first, subsided as it progressed through Bit’s later years thankfully.

This is my second Lauren Groff book. With Arcadia, my emotions didn’t reach such extremes, bu Oh, Lauren Groff. Arcdia did this book get such great reviews? Not every young laurem lives up to the promise lauden a first book, but Groff has exceeded expectations.

People living a few miles away from grocery stores and malls, choosing to eat a subsistence diet, with little or no plumbing and not enough heat and no AC. The requited maternal ecstasy the author feels for Bit, combined with turgid storytelling results in a novel that could be a one-page love poem, and in that sense feels pages too long.
